I am a 27-year-old Berlin-based upcycling enthusiast, designer and blogger. My interest in ethical fashion started to grow when I was studying Sustainable Development at the Uni of Edinburgh. After developing my ideas for more than two years I’ve launched my own online shop with my designs, which are made to order, also featuring ‘System Recovery‘ – a special line, made up of upcycled and repurposed one-of-a-kind clothes designed and made by me in Berlin.
I started my blog in May, 2012 and have been blogging ever since. After numerous commercial and non-commercial collaborations, today I focus more on exploring and documenting my passion – upcycling second hand material into new wearable fashion. I’m excited and curious where this new venture takes me!
In my talk I will introduce the concept of ethical fashion, provide examples and present issues we’re facing today in regard to production and consumption of clothing. My focus will be on upcycling and repurposing as the more creative ways to make fashion more ethical and sustainable. In the last part of my talk I will provide tips on how to start thinking about clothes differently, consume fashion ethically and also how to go about expressing yourself and your beliefs with the way you dress even if fashion is not your thing.
